18 Weeks

I'm finally starting to feel the actual bad side of being pregnant,....if there is one. I look like I am full term right now and I am FEELING it. My body is aching all over. My back is killing me, my face and neck are broken out, and my heartburn is unbearable (no matter what I eat or drink). If I stand for long periods of time, my feet, particularly my heels, hurt and my ankles begin to swell. My cravings are getting pretty bad, but the problem is I don't know what I'm craving. My stomach hurts because my muscles are stretching. Speaking of stretching, I am growing large stretchmarks on my lower stomach and hips. I think I'm starting to feel the babies move. I can definitely feel them when I press my fingers against my stomach. I'm having a hard time finding maternity clothes that fit, if that is even possible. So I have resorted to many sun dresses. Thank God we live in Florida, or we would have a real problem. We're beginning to stock up on diapers and since we now know what the sexes are have begun to buy some baby clothes. They are so hard to resist!

17 Weeks

Hello everyone! Nick and I had another appointment yesterday.....everything is going great according to the doctor. All four babies are doing well and growing good. We are definitely having three girls and a boy. We are very excited. They are getting so big and so am I. I have gained a total of 19 pounds so far. The doctor said I am right where I should be. From what I am told, it seems to be all in my belly (Thank God!) Blood pressure is great! No bed rest so far...I was just told to take it easy. I have attached the ultrasound pictures. There are two pictures of each baby. The first picture is of the baby...the second picture is of the private part that tells you what the baby is. It is amazing what they can see. Have fun trying to figure it out. Baby A looks a little scary because it is the skeleton face and she is looking right at you! Baby B is hard to figure out, but you can definitely tell by the second picture that it is a boy! Babies C and D, girls, are so cute! The pictures turned out very good! My next appointment is August 6th with the specialist! We'll see what happens, but so far so good!

15 Weeks

Some of you have been asking to see pictures of me. Here they are. Here I am, nice and fat already with my short haircut. I am scared to see where I will be a month from now, since I am only 15 weeks. I'm getting pretty uncomfortable already. Have fun making fun of me!

13 Weeks

Hello everyone! It looks like I have passed the hump! Just wanted to give you an update on the babies. They are all doing well. The test I had done today confirmed with a 75% chance that they do not have down syndrome or any other disorder or heart problems. I heard the heartbeats, thery were very strong. Their sizes are good, and I am doing well. I have only gained 11 pounds so far which is great since there are 4. My blood pressure is good as well. The lady that does the ultrasounds took her best guess at what Nick and I are going to have. She said not to paint the rooms yet, but she does believe that there are three girls and one boy. We will know for sure next visit, July 10th. We are both very excited and are glad that we are having at least one of each.

11 Weeks

When we saw the ultasound today, we were amazed at how much the babies have grown in such a short amount of time. I was worried because I have not seen them in four long weeks. I did not know what was going on inside me since I did not know what to expect and it is too early for me to feel the babies move. It was a relief to see them all moving around. I am not far enough along to hear their heartbeats. Hopefully we'll be able to hear them at our next appointment. I can't believe that even though I am only in my first trimester, I can see their profiles clearly. They look so cute. The doctor was pleased with my progress so far. All of this is starting to sink in. Wow FOUR babies at once. We are so blessed! The family I always wanted all in one shot. Who'd ever thought this would happen to us?

7 Weeks

We found out that the fourth sac did indeed develop into an embryo. Nick and I were amazed when we saw all four of the heartbeats. We were shocked but excited! When we shared our exciting news with family and friends, they thought we were kidding. The doctor reviewed risks and complications of having more than two babies. In the midst of reviewing our options the doctor mentioned a procedure called selected reduction that would eliminate two of the embryos. Since we have waited so long to get to this point and saw their hearts beating, there was no way we could ever think about following through with such a procedure. The doctor also warned us that we had a long road ahead of us but he would do his best to help us in any way he could and to get us to at least 30 weeks with the help of a maternal fetal specialist.

I woke up every morning ecstatic that I was finally pregnant but worried about the possibility of miscarriage along the way. Being pregnant with four children after waiting so long to get to that point was indescribable!

WE'RE PREGNANT!

On Monday, April 14th Kelly took a long awaited pregnancy test at 8 o'clock that night (about 12 hours before the doctor suggested). It showed two very faint pink lines. She was so used to seeing tests with only one pink line that she thought she was seeing something that was not really there. Kelly asked Nick to take a look and tell her what he saw - he had no idea what to look for. He said he saw two lines. Kelly asked, "Are you sure?" "Yes, there are two lines. Why? How many are there supposed to be," questioned Nick. Kelly replied, "We are supposed to see two if we are pregnant." Nick smiled and asked, "Are you definitely sure?" To reassure herself Kelly took another test in the morning. When the test came back positive she called the doctor who immediately sent her for a blood test.

On Tuesday, April 15th the blood results indicated that Kelly's Beta numbers were 1,426 which is a very strong POSITIVE. Since the numbers were so high, she was sent to get more blood work on Thursday, April 17th. Her Beta numbers had more than doubled - they were 3,583. The doctor said that the results were very indicative of carrying multiples and scheduled Kelly for her first ultrasound on Wednesday, April 23rd. She was now 5 weeks and 4 days pregnant. During the ultrasound, the doctor saw three developing sacs and one empty sac. He then scheduled Kelly for a followup ultrasound to determine if the fourth sac was viable. Kelly and Nick could not believe that they were pregnant in the first place, but were at a loss for words when they found out there were three babies let alone the possibility of four.
